The World is Beautiful, with Minor Conflicts

Short story readings
at the Morroco Bound Bookshop

The event

With this pop-up storytelling event, I presented two more characters from my quirky London universe.

The neighbourhood stories Uncle Peabody Loses his Worries and Mrs Downaway tell off two ordinary protagonists who experience two extraordinary encounters in their adjacent back gardens. In doing so, the stories find unexpected moments of connection and warmth in our times of social distancing and introspective soul-searching.

Irritable to the wind, even to the wind, the wafting wind: splashing through the trees and blowing the remaining raindrops like derisive spit into his face.

Location and Wind

The live readings took place in the relaxed atmosphere of the Morocco Bound Bookshop, near London Bridge Station, on the 18th of Februray, 8pm and the 23rd of March 2022, 7.30pm.

Despite February 18th being the windiest day in 30 years thanks to storm Eunice, a nice crowd managed to make it down to the bookstore.

Judging from the feedback, they were blown away as much by the (gentle) breeze as the stories; or even more so by the latter.

The event happened again a month later, ironically on one of the sunniest dayes of the year.

A happy ending after all.
